![]() The human body is over 70% water. Each hour we loose over 2 ounces of water due to evaporation and perspiration. This provides the much needed benefit of cooling our skin during the day as we expend energy and generate heat, keeping the body running at the optimal temperature. While sleeping, we continue to loose water. The materials we sleep in must be able to absorb that moisture and release it later in order to maintain the optimal body temperature. 50% of the insulation effect on the body lies in the ability of the materials to follow the contours of our body to reduce or eliminate the air gaps between our body and the duvet. Wool has the ability to absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp and must equalize with the outside environment. The body can then remain at the correct temperature even with a small air gap. With down even the smallest air gap will create a problem. Down is unable to absorb moisture, and the airtight down-proofed material will dry the moisture through evaporation, chilling that part of the body. Down proofing also stiffens the percale sheets, reducing the drapeability of the material substantially and increasing the air gaps. The lightness of the down further accentuates the problem because it has a tendency to float away from the body. ![]() SnugSleep™ wool bedding products are manufactured using high quality wool designed to provide the optimum in sleeping comfort and health. Wool is a natural living fibre that requires gentle care to maximize its longevity. Even superwash wool requires minimum agitation and never expose any wool product to high heat for more than a few minutes. Remember how your hair looks when it is over-processed and over-dried!! For the best care of your SnugSleep™ wool bedding products use the care tips below as your guide. Wool Mattress OverlayBefore use be sure and shake well or place in the fluff cycle of dryer for 10 minutes to remove some of the loose wool that accumulates during the manufacturing process. Frequent shaking and airing will eliminate the need for frequent laundering and any small stains or spills can be easily "spot" washed. When required, this superwash wool product launders beautifully. Can be machine washed on the delicate cycle (minimum agitation) using cool or lukewarm water and mild detergent. Place in warm dryer for a maximum of 10 minutes then shake thoroughly and hang to finish air-drying. Can also be hand-laundered or drycleaned if preferred. Loose wool is always released during initial launderings and is no cause for concern. Wool DuvetAs this product contains "carded wool" it cannot be successfully laundered on a regular basis. Drycleaning is recommended and be sure to inform the drycleaner the filling is wool. Any spills and small stains can be "spot" hand washed with lukewarm water and mild detergent in a laundry tub, rinsed with cool water and allowed to drain in the tub till dry enough to hang up to finish drying. Regular use of a duvet cover will eliminate the need for frequent cleaning. Wool Knop PillowsAny time re-fluffing: place pillow or pillows (max. 2) in dryer with a wet (wrung-out) terry towel. Tumble for 5 - 8 minutes on "hot", remove and allow to cool before use. The steam released will refluff the wool knops. Laundry - two choices. Unzip cover, pour loose knop fill into a large plastic bag. Launder cotton cover in machine with other bedding. Refill and use. This can be done as frequently as you desire. The whole pillow may be hand washed if needed. Lukewarm water, mild detergent in laundry tub. Gently squeeze - do not agitate. When rinsed can be "spun" in washing machine to remove excess water. Place in dryer on hot for max. 5 minutes. Remove and allow to air dry. |
